Nick Moore

Deputy Assistant Secretary, OCTAE

Nick Moore currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) at the U.S. Department of Education.

A native of Enterprise, Alabama, Nick began his career in education as a Teach for America corps member teaching U.S. history, government, and economics in Lowndes County, Alabama.

He later transitioned to policy and workforce development roles, serving as a legislative fellow and legislative assistant covering education, healthcare, and workforce issues.

Most recently, before joining OCTAE, he was Director of the Alabama Governor’s Office of Education and Workforce Transformation, where he helped lead efforts around skills-based hiring, competency-based learning, and the development of a state talent ecosystem.

Nick earned a Bachelor’s degree in History & Political Science via the Harvard University Extension School, and holds a Master of Public Policy from Cornell University.
He credits his community-college beginnings and early teaching experience for grounding his commitment to expanding access to high-quality career, technical, and adult education pathways.

In his role at OCTAE, Nick focuses on advancing national strategies to strengthen career & technical education (CTE), adult learning initiatives, and workforce readiness so learners of all ages can succeed in today’s economy.
